Not all ballistic missiles are nuclear missiles. It just means that they follow a ballistic trajectory, as opposed to being guided to a specific point.

Oh certainly, it’s still a very quick, very pointy, very large object falling towards a civilian population.... I added “ballistic” for emphasis. If that missile was nuclear tipped, I’m not sure we would be able to see the video at all.

I hadn’t heard about that crash. However, based on the information in the Wiki article, the flight crew was in way over their heads with that Learjet. It sounds like they were chasing the plane the whole way.

Wake turbulence is real, and would be exacerbated by a crew who seemed to be so ill-prepared to fly that jet. They were also nearly one mile too close to the 767.

I would be interested to hear some of the conspiracy theories, though.

Some say missile launcher, some said timed bomb, some said suicide attack (after all, everyone died) I used to live very near the crash site and we could see the flames from my apartment.

It’s a bit hard to believe, I know the 767 is a large airliner (and the wake is to be of worry specially at approach to a hot and high airport like MMMX) but even then the lear 45 is not small, for it to fall because of it seems suspicious.

I think it must’ve been that, there were no shrapnels found and the NTSB helped us investigate... So I doubt the theories.

But a coverup would’ve made a lot of sense, the country was at a precarious position. Calderon’s war and his credibility would’ve been damaged forever if the death of the most important cabinet members and national security staff was caused by a terror attack INSIDE the capital city which was meant to be “bulletproofed” from the narco violence.

Wake turbulence was a significant factor in the crash of American Flight 587 , an Airbus A300. So WT could have tossed that Learjet around like a leaf. Add that to what sounds like a wholly unqualified crew and you’ve got the recipe for disaster.

Yeah. On an unrelated note, our gov fleet is quite old, the bulk was purchased by Miguel de la Madrid way back in the 80's and a few years later a very important person died in a helicopter crash over Estado de Mexico after a party. The Puma helicopter was also owned by the government.

It might’ve been a precursor to the purchase of our terribly stupid 787; I would much rather see those smug idiots in chartered Aeromexico flights.

It seems to be similar: Large jet has wake and untrained crew doesn’t react accordingly (rudder snaps, pilots of lear 45 don’t recover on time and don’t follow instructions)
